SACCI Hosts National Conference 2009

The Southern African Association for the Conference Industry (SACCI) will be hosting its annual national conference from 26th to 28th July 2009. It will be the first time that the conference is being held in Pretoria

Themed TASK – an acronym for Tenacity, Accountability, Sustainability and Knowledge – this year, the SACCI conference will be held at the four –star graded CSIR International Convention Centre. The conference committee, made up of representatives from the Northern Territories Branch of SACCI are already putting plans in place for an extensive programme. 

The organisers have released a list of confirmed speakers for the conference:



  • Leonard Brehm, chairman of Grant Thornton SA, will give a presentation on how to manage the credit crunch, giving practical business guidance. 

  • Richard Torriani, Congress Management MCI Group, will share his views on managing risk.  

  • Tourism guru, Professor Ernie Heath will highlight the changing global tourism environment and which challenges and opportunities this brings for Saaci stakeholders. 

  • Louise Marsland, editor-in-chief and brand strategist of Advantage magazine and the former editorial director of Bizcommunity.com will talk about online and personal marketing. 

  • David Sand, chief executive of Uwin Iwin and Daryl Keywood  of Walthers DMC will speak on what is hot and what is new in inbound and outbound incentive travel and how to integrate corporate social investment and environmental responsibility.

  • How to effectively and collectively bid for international business will be discussed by managing director of the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Dirk Elzinga .

  • Chief executive officer of Avax SA, Rene Venter  and the national general manager of Springbok Atlas, Craig Drysdale will discuss the administrative adjudication of road traffic offences and the Bus Rapid Transit system respectively.

  • Petra Burger of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities will share her inputs on catering for people with disabilities, while Marisa Naude  of GreenX Energy will talk about the wave of green power in the conferencing industry. 


“We are confident that delegates to this year’s conference will certainly leave amply-enhanced to take on the challenges ahead,” says conference chairman, Nigel Walker.
